The first five minutes of any product are the only ones you are guaranteed. Everything after depends on what happens in that window, so we treat it as the most important surface we own.

We start by removing decisions. A new visitor should never have to choose between five equally-weighted paths. One clear next step, phrased in plain language, beats a tour every time.

Speed is a feature people feel before they can name it. If the first screen paints instantly and responds the moment it is touched, trust builds quietly in the background. If it stutters, no amount of polish elsewhere recovers it.

Finally, we design the empty state as carefully as the full one. A blank screen is not a gap to apologize for. It is a chance to show someone exactly what their success will look like.

Clutter rarely arrives all at once. It accumulates one reasonable addition at a time, each defensible on its own, until the whole screen asks too much of the people who use it.

The cost is quiet because it is spread thin. A slightly busier toolbar, one more badge, an extra banner. No single element feels like a problem, but together they raise the effort of every glance.

We fight this with a simple rule: anything new has to earn its place by removing something else or clearly justifying the weight it adds. Addition is not free, and pretending otherwise is how interfaces slowly become exhausting.

Restraint is not minimalism for its own sake. It is respect for attention, which is the one resource your users can never get back.
